The Vondelpark is Amsterdams’ most popular park. Each day that the sun shines, lots of people gather to enjoy themselves by having a pick-nick, barbequing, jogging, looking at beautiful people, playing sports, smoking weed, drinking beers and so on. Its a great place to meet new people and just hang out.

But from May untill August, The Vondelpark Open Air Theatre presents a full program of music, dance, theater, stand-up comedy and lots more! What better way to hang in the park? You can roll up, sip on your beer and enjoy some culture! For free!

The Vondelpark Open Air Theatre exists since 1974 and has hosted lots of great shows and parties. Not to be confused with the “Vondelbunker“, a great place that hosts more underground parties and concerts. The Open Air Theatre in the Vondelpark will host these performances in the weekend only and you can find more information and the full program here. Unfortunately its in Dutch, but the program is easy to look at.

If you plan to hang in the park, it might be a good idea to bring beers in a cooling bag and not buy them there. You can buy cold beers at most Turkish shops or night stores and a cooling bag is available at Albert Heijn supermarkets for instance. In summertimes you might be able to buy some cheaper beers from illegal vendors in the park as well, but its advised to just bring your own. Smoking weed is absolutely not a problem in the park of course, but other drugs like mushrooms or so, we would advise you to do in other places, as the park gets pretty crowded when the sun shines.
